The 2006 Z06 model Corvette upped the ante once more. The ‘06 Z06 marked another milestone for Corvette; a more than 25% boost in total horsepower rated at 427ci and 505 hp...the biggest production engine ever made by GM. And for a 8th time in its history, the Corvette was chosen as the Official Pace Car at the Indianapolis 500 in May of 2006.

The 2006 Z06 was an immediate hit with buyers. With the new performance package, demand was extreme and waits from placing deposits ran an average of at least six months or more before delivery. Many buyers paid $20,000 above full sticker in order to get a Z06 in 2006.

The ‘06 Z06 is distinctive from the standard 2006 model Corvette by side markings near the front wheel and flared rear wheel wells, necessary to accommodate the rear tires... which measure more than a foot wide.

Acquired new in April 2006, it has a six-speed manual transmission and virtually every option offered for the model, including head-up windshield display, satellite navigation system and XM satellite radio. The ‘06 Z06 is capable of 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds...and 0-100 mph in less than 9 seconds. Its top speed is just slightly under 200mph.

2006 saw the re-introduction of high performance Z06 model, weighing only 3132 pounds with a 427 cubic inch dry sump engine producing 505 HP.

A six-speed paddle shift automatic transmission was introduced as an option in 2006.

The two new exterior colors of the series were Velocity Yellow Tintcoat and Monterey Red Metallic Tintcoat. Corvette also added options for a Titanium Gray interior color and a Storm Gray convertible top. Along with the colors came three-spoke steering wheels and XM Satellite Radio.
